2. primary purpose of fasting in the month of Ramadan is to attain Taqwa, which means God-consciousness or piety. Fasting helps believers develop self-discipline, empathy for the less fortunate, and a deeper connection with Allah. It is also a way to purify the soul and seek forgiveness for past sins. The evidence for this can be found in the Quran, specifically in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 183: "O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous."
